Dan Kimpel – Songwriter, Author, Copywriter

Songwriter Dan Kimpel with legendary musician Brian Wilson.
Author of the Networking Strategies for the New Music Business, which was a follow-up to his best-selling Networking in the Music Business, Kimpel shared his experience of creating and maximizing relationships throughout his career.
Kimpel, who started working in the industry as a musician, was appointed Creative Director for the National Academy of Songwriters (NAS) in 1995 where he oversaw all of the Academy's periodicals and publications, and produced concerts and events with some of the most revered names in songwriting including Stills & Nash, Quincy Jones, Tom Petty, John Fogerty, Babyface, and Diane Warren.

Joe E. Rand – Music Editor
Recently completing his work on the blockbuster film, Live Free or Die Hard, music editor Joe E. Rand stopped by The Los Angeles Recording School to talk with students about finding a music related career path in the film industry and what it’s like to work as a music editor.
Before taking questions, Rand showed and critiqued some of his work on the film Deep Impact. “As a music editor you learn how to work with other opinions,” Rand said of the final scene of the movie. “It’s not always the way you want it to come out.”
Some of Rand’s other filmography as a music editor includes, Invincible, World Trade Center, Hidalgo, The Matrix, The Four Feathers, Jurassic Park III, The Perfect Storm, Bicentennial Man, The Bone Collector, The Pelican Brief, and Sneakers.
When asked what his favorite project was, Rand talked about Titanic, “I probably enjoyed working on that movie the most because of the challenges it presented.”
Penny Framstad – Songwriter
Accomplished songwriter and songwriting instructor Penny Framstad spoke with students about the different aspects of pitching yourself and how to use the Internet to your advantage.
“You have to be open-minded as an artist,” Framstad said. “When you are trying to establish yourself, you can’t be so selective. That can close doors to many opportunities.”
Framstad has been a successful songwriter, and her songs have been used in films such as, White Chicks and 10 Things I Hate About You, as well as TV shows including Dawson’s Creek, Jag, and The Real World. Her song, The Heart Has a Mind of its Own, was featured in a recent on-air promotion for The Office.
Kassi Crews – Vice President of Digital Jungle

Kassi Crews the Vice President of Digital Jungle.
Over 25 years of experience in producing, directing, and marketing for television and films, Crews visited The Los Angeles Film School to speak with students about audio postproduction.
Before starting Digital Jungle, which is a high-end full service technical facility, Crews was the Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Tell-A-Vision.
A graduate of University of California Santa Cruz, Crews also earned a Master of Arts degree from California Sate University, Fullerton. In addition to her postproduction experience, she also has an extensive acting background.
