Making the Music that Makes the Game

Composer Jack Wall visited the Los Angeles Recording School on June 15, to talk to students about his success working in the music industry.

Wall has built a reputation as a top composer and music producer in the world of interactive entertainment. While at The Los Angeles Recording school he spoke with students about what it’s like creating music for interactive media as well as the process of transitioning into the video game world.

Over the years, Wall has become an outspoken promoter of the video game music industry. His engineering and production experience spans from albums, live concerts and soundtracks. “In the industry they say that 50% of a film or video game is in its sound,” Wall said. “With gaming getting more and more popular, there are many opportunities for composers.”

Wall currently serves as the Vice-Chairman and Co-Founder of The Game Audio Network Guild (G.A.N.G.), a non-profit organization established to promote excellence in interactive audio. He is also co-creator, executive producer and conductor of the concert series, Video Games Live, an immersive event featuring music from some of the most popular video games of all-time.

His composing credits include: Jade Empire, Myst IV: Revelation, Myst III: Exile, Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow (cinematic music), Dungeon Siege II (promotional trailers), Rise of the Kasai, and Wrath Unleashed, among many others. Current projects include Mass Effect, the highly-anticipated upcoming game from BioWare and Microsoft.
