- "You can’t play to lose; you have to play to win. You have to posses drive and hunger. If you don’t, the next person will."
- Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins
During the open forum, Jerkins offered his expertise as one of the industry’s most prolific producers and songwriters while LA Recording School students asked questions.
“I want to make sure that each of you leaves here with something,” Jerkins said to the class. “To make it out there, you have to constantly learn as much as you can.”
In addition to offering some industry insight, Jerkins spoke about his experience with different artists and what he did to become successful.
“You can’t play to lose; you have to play to win,” he added. “You have to posses drive and hunger. If you don’t, the next person will.”

In 1999, Jerkins produced and co-wrote “If You Had My Love,” which became Jennifer Lopez’s first hit on her debut album. The following year, he won a Grammy Award for producing and co-writing the songs "Say My Name" for Destiny's Child and "He Wasn’t Man Enough" for Toni Braxton.
